Post-Visit Instructions
Many times patients have some procedures that may require some extra TLC. Please refer to the procedure and guidelines below for some extra support.
As always, you can contact our office with any additional questions!
After Teeth Whitening...
For superior results, please avoid foods that are dark, yellow, or other “staining” foods. If it stains a white t- shirt, keep away! Also, it is normal to have some sensitivity following the procedure, allow 48 hours for that to go away. In the meantime, you can use a pain reliever and/or Sensodyne toothpaste.
Take Home Bleaching Instructions...
Achieve a beautiful smile at home with our bleaching kits. Be sure to follow the recommended application procedures and maintenance recommendations for best results.
After an Extraction...
Your body needs at least 3- 5 days for the pain/swelling to subside and healing to begin. Press on a gauze for the first few hours to minimize bleeding. Avoid chewing on the area directly. Use an ice pack the first 2 days to reduce any swelling. And please take our prescribed pain medications and/or antibiotics around the clock, to minimize any pain and also reduce inflammation. This will also help speed up your recovery.
After a Filling or Crown...
It is normal to have some sensitivity or even discomfort after the procedure, especially if the cavity was larger and more involved. We use the best materials and techniques available, and have a great long term success rate with our restorations. If there is any chewing discomfort, please call for a post op visit, as there may need to be adjustments made.
After a Deep Scaling and Root Planing...
Please note that a deep cleaning is a non surgical procedure to combat or treat periodontal or gum disease. During the treatment, we remove bacterial plaque and hardened tarter below the gum line. This will help reduce inflammation around your gums and promote healing. Many times, we also irrigate the area thoroughly with a medicated antimicrobial irrigant to further combat the bacteria present in hard to reach areas. Please take your pain medication of choice for discomfort and brush and floss normally.
After a Root Canal...
Often perceived as the scariest procedure, it is one that most times offers little post op pain or discomfort. Please take your medications as indicated, whether it is pain relievers and/or antibiotics around the clock. Avoid chewing on that side with hard or sticky foods to prevent the temporary filling from dislodging. Also, please make sure you schedule an appointment for the permanent crown or restoration as the treated tooth is now hollow and much more subject to breaking or fracturing.
